Senate Concurrent Resolution 539

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING BRETT FAVRE UPON BEING ONLY THE SECOND PLAYER IN NFL HISTORY TO WIN BACK-TO-BACK MVP AWARDS AND FOR LEADING THE GREEN BAY PACKERS TO VICTORY IN SUPER BOWL XXXI. 

WHEREAS, Brett Favre was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the National Football League in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre became only the second player in NFL history to be awarded back-to-back Most Valuable Player honors; and

WHEREAS, this past season, he broke his own NFC record for touchdown passes with 39 TD passes; and

WHEREAS, in the summer of 1996, Brett Favre stated "This year it's Super Bowl or bust..."; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre went 19 of 29 for 292 yards and two touchdown passes in leading the Packers to a 30-13 win over the Carolina Panthers in the NFC championship game; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre led the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI by playing virtually mistake-free football; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre set the tone of the game on the Packers' second play from scrimmage when he called a play resulting in a 54-yard touchdown pass; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre set a Super Bowl record for longest play from scrimmage when he connected on an 81-yard touchdown pass; and

WHEREAS, Brett Favre also ran for a touchdown in Super Bowl XXXI; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend outstanding achievements of its citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do commend and congratulate Brett Favre upon being only the second player in NFL history to win back-to-back MVP awards and for leading the Green Bay Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Brett Favre.
