A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LEAVELL WOODS 13-14 YEAR OLD DIZZY DEAN ALL-STAR BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1996 DIZZY DEAN WORLD SERIES. 

WHEREAS, Leavell Woods 13-14 year old Dizzy Dean All-Star Baseball Team are national champions by virtue of winning the 1996 Dizzy Dean World Series held July 26-August 1, 1996, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Leavell Woods won the right to represent the State of Mississippi in the World Series by capturing the State Title with a nail-biting 2-0 win over Ingram Mills All-Stars in the State Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Leavell Woods defeated teams from Georgia, Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri and Ohio in the World Series; and

WHEREAS, Leavell Woods fought back after a loss in the double elimination series with the tenacity that is the hallmark of champions; and

WHEREAS, Leavell Woods defeated Ohio by scores of 5-3 and 9-6 to bring the World Series title back to Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, through the skills of team members Darrow Anderson, Ross Aven III, Wayne Black, Chris Carpenter, Bruce Carter, Matt Ginn, Jake Jenkins, Logan Owens, Chris Reed, Daniel Tackett and Jeremy Wilson, and the dedication of Manager David Reed and Coaches Ross Aven, Jr., and Steve Jenkins, Leavell Woods attained the ultimate goal of baseball players; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the meritorious achievements of its citizens, especially its youth:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Leavell Woods 13-14 year old baseball team for winning the 1996 Dizzy Dean World Series Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Leavell Woods team players, manager and coaches.
