AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF QUITMAN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO IMPOSE A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT ON LICENSE PLATES FOR VEHICLES REGISTERED TO PERSONS RESIDING OUTSIDE THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF A MUNICIPALITY IN THE COUNTY; TO ESTABLISH THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF SUCH SPECIAL ASSESSMENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) For the purpose of providing funds to defray the costs of garbage or rubbish collection or disposal services, the Board of Supervisors of Quitman County, Mississippi, in its discretion, by order duly adopted and entered on its minutes, may impose and collect a special assessment, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Eight Dollars ($108.00) per year, on license plates for vehicles registered to residents of the county as provided in subsection (2) of this section. Such special assessment shall be in addition to all other assessments now imposed.

(2) The special assessment authorized by subsection (1) of this section shall only apply to vehicles registered to persons residing outside the corporate limits of a municipality in Quitman County.

(3) The special assessment authorized by subsection (1) of this section shall be limited to one (1) vehicle per household.

SECTION 2. The authority granted in this act shall be additional, cumulative and supplemental to any other authority granted to counties by general law or by local and private act of the Legislature for defraying the costs of providing garbage or rubbish collection or disposal services.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
