AN ACT MAKING AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF STATE GENERAL FUNDS FOR THE SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND TO PAY THE EXPENSES OF COUNTIES FOR HOLDING STATE PRISONERS IN COUNTY JAILS DURING FISCAL YEARS 1996 AND 1997, FOR FISCAL YEAR 1997.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the Department of Corrections for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1997 $ 5,369,369.00.
SECTION 2. Of the funds appropriated under the provisions of Section 1, the following sum is provided for the purpose of paying for medical services provided to state inmates
SECTION 3. Of the funds appropriated under the provisions of Section 1, Three Million Two Hundred Thirty-one Thousand Seven Hundred Ten Dollars ($3,231,710.00) is provided for the purpose of paying the expenses of counties for holding state prisoners in county jails for fiscal years 1996 and 1997 as follows:
Fiscal Year 1996 $ 1,634,522.00
Fiscal Year 1997 1,597,188.00
Total $ 3,231,710.00
SECTION 4. The money herein appropriated shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers, in the manner provided by law.
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
