AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO CONSTRUCT AND EQUIP CORRECTIONAL FACILITY WITH NECESSARY SUPPORT FACILITIES FOR ONE THOUSAND OFFENDERS; TO RESTRICT THE FACILITY TO HOUSING CERTAIN LOW RISK INMATES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Department of Corrections is authorized to construct and equip a correctional facility and the necessary support facilities for one thousand (1,000) low risk offenders. The facility shall be restricted to housing first offenders, property offenders, driving under the influence offenders and low risk offenders with less than two (2) years to serve.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
