AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL PROVIDE ANY AVAILABLE STATE FUNDS TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS IN THE STATE; TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT SHALL APPORTION THE APPROPRIATED SUM AMONG PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall provide any available state funds that may be used for public transit to the public transportation systems in the state. The Department of Transportation shall apportion the state funds among public transportation systems in the state so that each system will receive an amount that, to the extent possible, when added to the amount of federal funds provided to the system for the upcoming fiscal year, is equal to the amount of federal funds that were provided to the system for fiscal year 1995.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
