AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF DESOTO COUNTY TO PURCHASE SPEED DETECTION EQUIPMENT FOR USE BY THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT OF THE COUNTY IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF SPEED LIMITS ON THE ROADS, STREETS AND HIGHWAYS OF THE COUNTY OUTSIDE THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF ANY INCORPORATED MUNICIPALITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.  

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Board of Supervisors of DeSoto County may expend, out of any available funds of the county, an amount that the board determines is sufficient for the purchase of and use by the sheriff's department of the county of speed detection equipment. If the board of supervisors authorizes the expenditure of funds for such purpose, then the Sheriff of DeSoto County and any duly sworn deputy sheriff of the county may operate and use such equipment to enforce the motor vehicle speed limits on any county-maintained public road, street or highway within the county outside the corporate limits of any incorporated municipality.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
