AN ACT TO CODIFY SECTION 73-3-26, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE ADMISSION OF FOREIGN LEGAL CONSULTANTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following provision shall be codified as Section 73-3-26, Mississippi Code of 1972:

73-3-26. Any lawyer from another country who has met the requirements for the practice of law in that country may act as a foreign legal consultant in the State of Mississippi provided the laws of the country from which the applicant originates grant similar privileges to applicants from the State of Mississippi. Any such lawyer desiring to act as a foreign legal consultant must make application to the Board of Bar Admissions. Such applicant shall present evidence of good standing in the country of origination; the board may require the submission of additional evidence by the applicant and payment of an application fee as is required for those seeking reciprocity from other states.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
