AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT A CANCELLATION OR NONRENEWAL OF ANY INSURANCE POLICY IS NOT EFFECTIVE UNLESS A WRITTEN EXPLANATION OF THE REASON FOR SUCH CANCELLATION OR NONRENEWAL ACCOMPANIES THE NOTICE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.  

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. A cancellation or nonrenewal of any insurance policy by an insurer is not effective unless a written explanation of the reason for such cancellation or nonrenewal accompanies the notice of cancellation or nonrenewal.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
