A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DANIELLE SMITH ON BEING NAMED 1996 FEMALE CITGO "ATHLETE OF THE YEAR". 

WHEREAS, Danielle Smith, a ten-year-old from Meridian, Mississippi, has been a gymnastics student at the Pat Gray Dance Academy in Meridian for the past seven years; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, Danielle Smith was the Level Four State Champion for the Mississippi Recreational Gymnastics Association (MRGA); and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Danielle Smith won the Level Five Beam State Championship for the United States Gymnastics Federation; and

WHEREAS, in addition to gymnastics, Danielle Smith enjoys playing soccer and acting, and in the 1993 and 1995 State Games of Mississippi, Danielle and her soccer team won a gold medal in the Under-8 Tournament and a silver medal in the Under-10 Tournament, respectively; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her sporting activities, Danielle Smith has managed to find time to appear in the Meridian's Little Theater youth productions of "Pinocchio," "The Wizard of Oz," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Peter Pan"; and

WHEREAS, Danielle Smith was named the Female 1996 CITGO "Athlete of the Year," an award which seeks to honor athletes who represent the true spirit of competition from all ages and abilities; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence, especially when it is exhibited by the youth of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Danielle Smith on being named the Female 1996 CITGO "Athlete of the Year" and wish her much added success in her future athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Danielle Smith and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
