A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MARY HARIALD ON BEING NAMED AMERICAN VOCATIONAL DECA TEACHER OF THE YEAR. 

WHEREAS, Mary Hariald, who has served as the Diversified Occupations Cooperative Education teacher for 25 years at Nettleton High School in Nettleton, Mississippi, has received the well-deserved honor of American Vocational DECA Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, after receiving the Bachelor of Science in Commerce and the Master of Business Education degrees from the University of Mississippi, Ms. Hariald received the Endorsement in Vocational Office Training from Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hariald, who began her teaching career in Mississippi schools in 1957, has the unique ability to make learning and earning fun and exciting for her students by combining innovative classroom instruction with on-the-job training; and

WHEREAS, a gifted and dedicated instructor, Ms. Hariald was selected the 1996 AVA Region IV Vocational Teacher of the Year;

was recognized for the "Excellence in Supervision" award at the American Institute for Foreign Study National Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee; was named the Mississippi Association of Marketing Education District II DECA Advisor of the Year in 1991 and 1993; and was chosen as the 1988 American Vocational Association Region IV Marketing Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, many of Ms. Hariald's writings have been published, including articles she wrote for the State DECA Newsletter, "The Six Points Release" and for the national DECA publications, "DECA Advisor" and "DECA Dimensions"; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hariald has assisted students in mastering the entrepreneurial skills of opening and operating a business. She organized "DECA Creations," a balloon business that provides a service for the school and community and earns a profit that is used to help finance the students' attendance at leadership and competition conferences; and

WHEREAS, the programs developed by Mary Hariald have given definite purpose and meaning to education by relating it to the student's occupational goals; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hariald has kept many students in school through the enthusiasm she exhibits for her Diversified Occupations Cooperative Education Program:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mary Hariald upon her selection as American Vocational DECA Teacher of the Year and express our sincere appreciation for the guidance and leadership she provides to the youth of our state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Mary Hariald and Nettleton High School.
