House Resolution 15

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING WILL GREEN POINDEXTER FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER OF PUBLIC SERVICE. 

WHEREAS, William Green (Will Green) Poindexter of Inverness, Mississippi, was born on January 10, 1944, in Greenwood, and he graduated from Greenwood High School and in 1967 he earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University with a double major in history and government; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Mississippi State, Will Green Poindexter joined Senator John C. Stennis' staff in Washington where he worked for one year before returning home where he farmed in Sunflower and Leflore Counties until 1991; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, at the age of 26, Will Green Poindexter began his political career by being the youngest person ever elected as Mayor of Inverness; and

WHEREAS, after serving as Mayor of Inverness, Will Green Poindexter was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1975, where he ably and effectively represented the people of Sunflower County with pride and distinction for 17 years; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as a representative, Will Green Poindexter's leadership abilities and legislative skills were recognized by his colleagues in the House, resulting in his appointment to serve on and chair committees requiring such talents, including membership on the Constitution Committee, the Municipalities Committee, the Ways and Means Committee, the Labor Committee, the Conservation and Water Resources Committee, and the Apportionment and Elections Committee, and serving as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Rules Committee and as Chairman of the Investigation of State Offices Committee; and

WHEREAS, Will Green earned a reputation among his colleagues as an effective and responsible legislator who said what he believed, had the courage to take a stand on controversial issues and deal with the issues in an honest and straightforward manner at all times; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, Will Green joined Governor Kirk Fordice's staff as a legislative liaison and as liaison for the Governor on agriculture issues; and

WHEREAS, Will Green is married to the former Malinda W. Parr of Meridian and they have one son, William Green Poindexter IV; and

WHEREAS, Will Green Poindexter has brought much credit to himself, the House of Representatives and the Governor's Office by his dedication, hard work, tireless efforts, and steadfast commitment to doing those things that he believed were in the best interests of the people he represented and the people of this state, and his presence in State Government certainly will be missed:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and express sincere appreciation to our colleague Will Green Poindexter for his distinguished public service career and offer our best wishes for his success in all future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Will Green Poindexter.
