A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ENGINEERS AND RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 17 THROUGH FEBRUARY 21, 1997, AS ENGINEERS WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI. 

WHEREAS, engineers, through their scientific knowledge and creative skills, have fostered and shaped the technological development of this nation and, to a large extent, are responsible for leading America into the forefront of economic success; and

WHEREAS, facing major technological challenges ranging from rebuilding the infrastructure of entire cities devastated by natural disasters to designing remarkably complex systems to explore our world and gather scientific data from the farthest recesses of our galaxy, engineers have continuously demonstrated their ability to turn ideas into reality; and

WHEREAS, the engineering profession performs a vital role in modern society, contributing to advancements in science, business and industry and providing the groundwork upon which future generations will build to find solutions to tomorrow's challenges; and

WHEREAS, engineers throughout the nation will celebrate National Engineers Week during the third week of February 1997:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi, That we hereby join other states and the nation in commending, honoring and paying tribute to the engineering profession by recognizing February 17 through February 21, 1997, as Engineers Week in Mississippi.
