A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING GERTRUDE AND ODIE ANDERSON ON THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. 

WHEREAS, Gertrude and Odie Anderson, who were united in Holy Matrimony on April 6, 1947, will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary at a banquet to be held on April 5, 1997, in Olive Branch, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have been blessed with eight children; namely, Beverly, Vera, Odie, Jr., Alexis, Gary, Joann, Michelle and Felecia; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude and Odie Anderson, during their lifetime, have been residents of Marshall County, Mississippi, where Gertrude has served for many years as an educator/administrator in the public school system and in Project Head Start and Odie has been a lifelong farmer; and

WHEREAS, Odie Anderson received medals for his valiant service in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the European command under General Omar Bradley and in the Pacific under General Douglas MacArthur; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude and Odie Anderson have been productive members of their community where Gertrude has served in various capacities including serving on the Board of the Byhalia Chamber of Commerce and where Odie is a retired fire fighter and a deacon in his church; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend those who have been leaders in their community and who have demonstrated outstanding service to family, community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate and commend Gertrude and Odie Anderson on their 50 years of marriage and for the love they have shared with each other and their community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Gertrude and Odie Anderson and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
