House Concurrent Resolution 154

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF LESLIE ALAN WALMAN. 

WHEREAS, Leslie Alan Walman, who was known as Alan to family and friends, departed this life on March 1, 1997; and

WHEREAS, a native Mississippian, Alan was born November 11, 1977, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Thomas H. and Jane M. Walman, and he had one sister, Katherine Alexis Walman; and

WHEREAS, a truly gifted athlete, Alan competed in football and soccer, excelled in tennis and basketball, was a member of several championship baseball teams, held a green belt in twaekwondo martial arts, and was an avid hunter and fisherman; and

WHEREAS, committed to excelling academically, Alan was selected to participate in the McComb Municipal Separate School District's Quest Program, a program for academically gifted students; he was chosen as a member of the McComb High School's Odyssey of the Mind Team which advanced to the state level competition; he was elected class representative to the McComb High School Student Council; and he was very astute with computers and electronics; and

WHEREAS, Alan was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #124 in McComb, Mississippi, and held the Rank of First Class and was a Troop Leader; and he attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, at which he completed a five-day wilderness survival and hiking course; and

WHEREAS, on July 8, 1994, Alan was presented the Red Flag Award at Aviation Challenge School, United States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, in recognition of the most outstanding squadron performance involving an intense curriculum in aeronautical sciences as well as water and land survival; and

WHEREAS, Alan attended Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, he graduated from Germantown High School in Germantown, Tennessee, on May 23, 1996, and he was attending Southwest Community College; and

WHEREAS, Alan served as a legislative page in the Mississippi House of Representatives on several occasions; and

WHEREAS, a devout Christian, Alan was a member of J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church in McComb, Mississippi, and was an active participant in the church's youth program; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend a young citizen of the State of Mississippi who was an example by which all the youth of the state can pattern their lives and who will be truly missed by all those who had the good fortune to know him:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Leslie Alan Walman and express our deepest sympathy to his family upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Leslie Alan Walman and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
