A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING JIMMY DAVIS, EVERETT EUGENE WILSON, DANNY AND KATHY WISE, AND WILLIAM LOWE ON THEIR HEROIC ACTIONS TO SAVE GOVERNOR FORDICE AFTER HIS NEAR-FATAL AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. 

WHEREAS, on November 5, 1996, Governor Kirk Fordice was involved in a near-fatal automobile accident when his Jeep Grand Cherokee left the road and rolled over several times before catching fire; and

WHEREAS, but for the heroic efforts of several motorists passing by who immediately came to the aid of the Governor although they knew not who they were humbly assisting, the Governor of our state might not be alive today; and

WHEREAS, first to arrive on the scene, Everett Eugene Wilson, a truck driver from West Memphis, Arkansas, daringly struggled to release the Governor's seatbelt before assisting in pulling the Governor from the flaming vehicle; and

WHEREAS, also assisting in the rescue, Jimmy Davis, a banker from Grenada, Mississippi, bravely worked to extinguish the fiery blaze in order to prevent an explosion and helped pull the Governor from the burning wreckage; and

WHEREAS, Pineville, Louisiana, resident Kathy Wise, a nurse at the Huey P. Long Charity Hospital, compassionately rendered the first medical attention to the Governor, taking charge of his condition until the arrival of an ambulance, while her husband, Danny, helped to secure fire extinguishers and in the overall rescue efforts at the accident scene; and

WHEREAS, William Lowe of Sardis, Mississippi, a driver for Shippers Transport's Memphis terminal, assisted those giving aide to the Governor; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi believes that it is most appropriate to pay special tribute to these brave and caring individuals who, like the Good Samaritan whose heart was filled with pity for his fellowman on the road to Jericho, daringly and unselfishly risked their own lives to come to the rescue and aid of their brother:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Jimmy Davis, Everett Eugene Wilson, Danny and Kathy Wise, and William Lowe on their quick and heroic actions to save the life of Governor Kirk Fordice and memorialize the goodwill and compassion that they so generously extended toward their fellowman as a true example of service to others to which all of humankind may aspire.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jimmy Davis, Everett Eugene Wilson, Danny and Kathy Wise, and William Lowe and the Capitol Press Corps.
