House Concurrent Resolution 146

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. PAT GILL FOR HIS YEARS OF DEDICATED MEDICAL SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND WISHING HIM WELL UPON HIS RETIREMENT. 

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill recently retired from his career as a physician after over 41 years of practicing medicine in Noxubee County, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill, a native of Smith County, started his higher education at Jones Junior College, and finished his pre-medical work at the University of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill got his medical degree in 1954 from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during a time when there were no four-year medical schools in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill faced many challenges during his medical career, including once delivering an eight pound breech baby to a 16-year old girl on a blanket on the floor by the light of one kerosene lamp; and

WHEREAS, during a time when there was no Medicaid or Medicare, Dr. Pat Gill was the type of doctor and human being who followed the golden rule, and he saw all patients, whether they had money or not; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill built his home on Airport Road in 1966 with an office attached so that people could visit him at night if they got sick; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill is also a dedicated family man who keeps himself busy with his family since leaving work; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill is married to the former Mary Neil Guy of Macon and has nine children and seven grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pat Gill will be missed by all of his patients, who have only good things to say about him:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dr. Pat Gill for his many years of dedicated service to his community as a physician and wish him well in his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Pat Gill and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
