House Concurrent Resolution 139

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM. 

WHEREAS, the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team advanced to the final round in the Mock Trial Competition of 52 teams from public and private schools, sponsored by the Mississippi Bar; and

WHEREAS, in only its second year fielding a team, Murrah finished second in the state by the narrowest of margins; and

WHEREAS, Murrah's team consists of Ashura Lewis, Melvin Priester, Jr., Mercedes Washington, Tiffany Bartley, Rukia Lumumba, Aisha DeBerry and Lawrence Quinn; and

WHEREAS, Murrah was superbly coached by Murrah High teacher Karen Redhead, Attorney Melvin Priester, Sr., and Hinds County Circuit Judge James E. Graves, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend exemplary accomplishments of the public schools of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Murrah High School Mock Trial Team for its outstanding performance in the 1997 Mock Trial Competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Murrah High School.
