House Concurrent Resolution 132

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COPIAH-LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE LADY WOLVES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR PHENOMENAL 1996-1997 SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an awesome record of 28 wins and only 3 losses; and

WHEREAS, on the road to the national tournament, the Lady Wolves ranked No. 16 in the NJCAA's national poll, won both the state championship and the Region 23 crown; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves have been superbly coached and inspired by Coach Gwyn Young, who has broadened the Lady Wolves' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Young has brought additional honor to himself and to Copiah-Lincoln Community College by attaining an overall record of 435 wins and 147 losses, has to his credit 13 regular season first place finishes in the South Division, 6 South Tournament titles, 2 state titles and 3 regional titles; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Copiah-Lincoln Community College; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the great citizens of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves Basketball Team and Coach Young, for their phenomenal 1996-1997 season and for winning the State Championship and the Region 23 crown, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves Basketball Team, Coach Gwyn Young and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
