House Concurrent Resolution 130

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING ROSA SCOTT MIDDLE SCHOOL OF MADISON, MISSISSIPPI, ON ITS OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS. 

WHEREAS, Rosa Scott Middle School in Madison, Mississippi, traditionally has demonstrated the highest qualities of academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, the faculty, administration and staff at Rosa Scott Middle School consistently challenge their students to achieve the very best in academics; and

WHEREAS, during the 1996-1997 school year, the seventh and eighth grades at Rosa Scott Middle School achieved the highest scores in the state on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, standardized tests covering reading, mathematics and language arts which are used to measure student achievement in relation to the performance of a national sample selected to be representative of the nation's students in each grade tested; and

WHEREAS, in addition, the sixth grade at Rosa Scott Middle School performed very well on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills during the 1996-1997 school year, achieving the fourth highest scores in the state; and

WHEREAS, the hard work and dedication of the students at Rosa Scott Middle School in all their endeavors have earned the students high honors in extracurricular activities as well as in the academic arena; and

WHEREAS, the Rosa Scott Dance Team, comprised of students in the seventh and eighth grades, won the 1995-1996 American All-Star Junior High National Championship; and

WHEREAS, exhibiting the school's pride and spirit, the Rosa Scott Middle School cheerleaders captured the Junior High School Elite Cheerleader Division Championship sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi believes that it is most appropriate to pay special recognition to the students, teachers, administrators, staff and parents of the Rosa Scott Middle School students, who epitomize a commitment to educational excellence in the public schools of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Rosa Scott Middle School in Madison, Mississippi, on its outstanding achievements in academic and extracurricular activities.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Rosa Scott Middle School, Madison County School District and the Capitol Press Corps.
