A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DURANT PUBLIC SCHOOL TIGERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Durant Public School Boys Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of 21 wins and 14 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers did very well in tournament play this year, winning the District 4 Championship and finishing second in the 1A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play, including the naming of Terry Large, Jr., Jason Davis and Donnell Thomas to the All-State Tournament Team; the naming of Terry Large, Jr., Donnell Thomas and Timothy Latiker to the All-South State Team; and the selection of Terry Large, Jr., Jason Davis and Donnell Thomas to the All-District Team; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Danny Robertson, who has broadened the Tigers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, their appearance in the state championship game marked the fourth time in the last five years that the Tigers played for the state championship and this season was the fifth straight year that the Tigers were district champs; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Durant Public School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Durant Public School Tigers Boys Basketball Team and their coach, Danny Robertson, for their outstanding 1996-1997 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Durant Public School and Coach Danny Robertson.
