House Concurrent Resolution 126

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. TERRELL TISDALE UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF JONES COUNTY JUNIOR COLLEGE. 

WHEREAS, a native Mississippian, Dr. Terrell Tisdale was born in Jones County, Mississippi, on March 22, 1937; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tisdale received an Associate in Arts Degree from Jones County Junior College in 1958, a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1960, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1963 and an Education Doctorate Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1972; and

WHEREAS, serving Jones County Junior College for 37 years, Dr. Tisdale served as Housing Supervisor from 1960 to 1963, Dean of Men from 1963 to 1967, Assistant to the President from 1967 to 1970 and as President from 1970 to 1997; and

WHEREAS, always willing to help the community, Dr. Tisdale presently serves as the President of the Mississippi Association of Educators and has served as a member of Governor Kirk Fordice's Education Task Force, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Pine Burr Council of Boy Scouts of America, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Laurel Community Concert Association, as a member of the Executive Committee of Jones County United Way, as Chairman of the Ellisville Branch of Jones County American Red Cross, as a member of the Ellisville Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the Lions Sight Foundation of Mississippi, as a member of the Mississippi Commission on Hospital Care, as a member of the Mississippi Council on Aging, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army and two years as President of the Mississippi Junior College Association; and

WHEREAS, a truly dedicated Christian, Dr. Tisdale serves in numerous capacities as a member of First Baptist Church of Ellisville; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tisdale served his country for eight years in the United States Army and the Mississippi National Guard; and

WHEREAS, a loving husband and father, Dr. Tisdale is married to Martha Rogers Tisdale and they are the proud parents of one son, James Terrell Tisdale; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tisdale has received numerous personal honors, such as being selected as Ellisville's Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1971, being selected to the Outstanding Young Men of the South, being selected as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Theta Kappa, winning the Silver Beaver Award for the Pine Burr Council of Boy Scouts of America, being featured in the 1967 edition of the Outstanding Civic Leaders of America and being presented the 1994 Distinguished Citizen Award for the Pine Burr Area Council of Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the great citizens of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Terrell Tisdale upon his retirement as the President of Jones County Junior College and wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Terrell Tisdale and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
