A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MATTHEW LAMBERT ON HIS BOOK, JOEY'S BIRTHDAY WISH, WINNING THE AWARD FOR CHILDREN'S CHOICES FOR 1996.
WHEREAS, Matthew Lambert's book, Joey's Birthday Wish, won the award for Children's Choices for 1996; and
WHEREAS, more than 830 books were considered for the Children's Choice List, and more than 10,000 schoolchildren from across the United States read and voted on the books to be included in the Children's Choice List; and
WHEREAS, in the fifth grade, Matthew won the 1993 Raintree Steck/Vaughn Publish-a-Book Contest with his book, My First Spring; and
WHEREAS, in the sixth grade, Matthew won the 1994 Raintree Steck/Vaughn Publish-a-Book Contest with his book, Joey's Birthday Wish; and
WHEREAS, Matthew received $500.00 cash in advanced royalties and also received the Alexander Fischbein Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00 for the 1993 and 1994 Raintree Steck/Vaughn Publish-a-Book Contests; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Matthew Lambert on his book, Joey's Birthday Wish, winning the Children's Choice Award for 1996 and for his work in children's literature, and wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Matthew Lambert and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
