A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING SOUTH PONTOTOC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON ATTAINING LEVEL 5 ACCREDITATION FOR THE 1996-1997 SCHOOL YEAR. 

WHEREAS, South Pontotoc Elementary School traditionally has demonstrated the highest qualities of academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, South Pontotoc Elementary School has a student population of over 880 outstanding students in Kindergarten through Grade 6; and

WHEREAS, the faculty, administration and staff at South Pontotoc Elementary School consistently challenge their students to achieve the very best in academics; and

WHEREAS, during the 1996-1997 school year, South Pontotoc Elementary School attained a student performance index rating of 5.0, thereby receiving an accreditation level of 5.0, the highest accreditation rating a school can receive, which was accomplished by only 12 school districts in the entire state; and

WHEREAS, under the dedicated leadership and administration of Principal Dr. Diane Page, the South Pontotoc Elementary faculty and staff, Superintendent Jerry Horton and the Pontotoc County School District School Board, chaired by Mr. Ken Roye, the school has achieved high academic performance while keeping the tax burden low on the citizens of the county; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi believes that it is most appropriate to pay special recognition to the students, teachers, administrators, staff, Pontotoc County School Board members and parents of the South Pontotoc Elementary School students, who epitomize a commitment to educational excellence for the public schools of their county and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend South Pontotoc Elementary School on attaining Level 5 accreditation for the 1996-1997 school year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to South Pontotoc Elementary School and the Capitol Press Corps.
