A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS SESQUICENTENNIAL. 

WHEREAS, on September 29, 1847, the first recorded baptisms of four Pass Christian inhabitants were conducted by the Reverend Symphorien Guinand of Biloxi; and

WHEREAS, in October of 1847, Father Louis Marie Stanislaus Buteux of Bay St. Louis was placed in charge of forming the first Catholic Confirmation class in Pass Christian; and

WHEREAS, in the year 1851, the Reverend A. Paul Guerard constructed the first Parish Catholic Church in Pass Christian; and

WHEREAS, the good and holy Pastors and Fathers of the St. Paul Parish Catholic Church of Pass Christian are acknowledged for their many good contributions over the past 150 years; and

WHEREAS, the Catholic community of St. Paul Parish of Pass Christian desires to make tribute to its Faith Community heritage; and

WHEREAS, the individual and collective Catholic parishioners wish to prepare a pilgrimage year of special devotion:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend St. Paul Catholic Church upon its sesquicentennial.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to St. Paul Catholic Church and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
