House Concurrent Resolution 95

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND ROYCE B. LUKE FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXPRESSING THE BEST WISHES OF THE LEGISLATURE UPON HIS RETIREMENT. 

WHEREAS, Royce B. Luke, an exemplary public servant, has announced that he will retire in June of 1997; and

WHEREAS, Royce B. Luke of Gautier was born on November 16, 1932, in Preston, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Royce B. Luke is a graduate of East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees and Mississippi State University where he received a doctorate; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Luke is married to Rose Marie French Luke and they are the parents of a daughter, Melanie Noland, who is a polymer chemist, and a son Royce B. Luke, Jr., who is a chemical engineer; and

WHEREAS, Royce B. Luke has worked in Mississippi as an educator serving for two years at Hattiesburg High School, two and one-half years in the Pascagoula School System, five years at Mississippi State University and twenty-five years at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and he also served as Dean of the Business School at the University of Southwest Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Luke's public service includes service as a field representative for United States Congressman Larkin Smith and United States Senator Trent Lott, service on the Jackson County Port Authority, service on the Jackson County Board of Supervisors and service in the Mississippi House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Royce B. Luke is active in his community as a member of the Gautier United Methodist Church, a member of the Rotary Club, a member of the Elks Club, a former member of the Pascagoula Civitan Club and Finance Chairman of the Gautier volunteer Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding contributions of Mississippi citizens to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Royce B. Luke for his many years of public service and extend our best wishes to him upon his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Royce B. Luke and to the Capitol Press Corps.
