A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. 

WHEREAS, organized in 1890 and incorporated in 1952, the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association is dedicated to building a significant program of alumni interest and support aimed at the enrichment of Alcorn State University's total mission; and

WHEREAS, the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association has a universal network consisting of 75 alumni chapters in the United States representing over 1,500 members; and

WHEREAS, through the years the Association has operated to promote the ideals of Alcorn State University, translated its objectives into terms which the public can understand and appreciate, upheld its ideals of scholarship, encouraged the best students to seek opportunities for admission through scholarships and grants it has established, and supported the university's mission and its needs as promulgated by the administration charged with its destiny; and

WHEREAS, the many alumni-sponsored fund-raising projects are indicative of the Association's commitment to higher education and to Alcorn State University; and

WHEREAS, the Alumni Association sponsors the Alumni Athletic Supplement Fund, the Revolving Student Loan Fund, alumni departmental scholarships in English and agriculture, and the Alumni Centennial Fund; and

WHEREAS, the alumni-related publications include a newsletter and the annual Alumnus Magazine, the official publication of the Association; and

WHEREAS, the National Alumni Association is dedicated to helping Alcorn State University to enhance the image and potential of students and to attract young people whose intent is to receive a quality education; and

WHEREAS, Alcorn State University has served the State of Mississippi, the nation and the world for over 125 years by cultivating and shaping the minds of youth and producing leaders who are enhancing this state, this nation and the world:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association and wish the Association and Alcorn State University continued success in educating and refining the young minds with which they are entrusted.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association, to Alcorn State University and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
