A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BRUCE HIGH SCHOOL TROJANS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR PHENOMENAL 1996-1997 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Bruce High School Trojans Football Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an awesome record of 13 wins and only 2 losses; and
WHEREAS, the seniors on the 1996-1997 Bruce High School Football Team have compiled an astounding 32-6 overall record and have recorded 21 consecutive home wins; and
WHEREAS, the Trojans did extremely well in the state playoffs this year, winning the District II Class 2A Championship, the North Half Championship and the Class 2A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, several of the Trojans have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Marcus Thomas, Shun Gibson, and Andre Anderson, Tupelo Daily Journal All-Area Team; Andy Schoggin and Marcus Thomas, Clarion-Ledger Honorable Mention All-State; Marcus Thomas, Andre Anderson, Jeremy Yarbrough, Shun Gibson, Freddy Bullard, Andy Schoggin, Courtney Pierce, Joseph Gray, Chad Baker, Brad Melton, Thomas Williams and John Sullivan, District II 2A All-District; Josh Hegwood, Marcus Brown, Billy Gillis, and Admad Powell, All-District Honorable Mention; and
WHEREAS, the Trojans have been superbly coached and inspired by Coach Phil Ferguson, who has broadened the Trojans' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Ferguson has brought additional honor to himself and to Bruce High School by his being selected as the Tupelo Daily Journal Northeast Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Bruce Coaching Staff, which consists of Head Coach Phil Ferguson, Donnie Logan, Rudy Pope and Willie Brown, was selected District II Coaching Staff of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Trojans have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Bruce High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Bruce High School Trojans Football Team, and Coach Ferguson, for their phenomenal 1996-1997 season and for winning the State 2A Championship, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bruce High School and Coach Phil Ferguson.
