A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GEORGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL REBELS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE DIVISION 8 CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, the George County High School Rebels Football Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of ten wins and three losses; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Division 8 Class 4A Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play, including the naming of quarterback Danny Hudson, running back Clarence Fairley, running back Jarvis Wells, wide receiver Jamie Hilbun, offensive lineman Chris Street, defensive end Justin Morgan, linebacker Preston Havens and linebacker Greg Hudson to the first team; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Steve Buckley, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Steve Buckley has brought additional honor to himself and to the school by being selected as the "Coach of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to their school; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the George County High School Rebels Football Team and their coach, Steve Buckley, for their outstanding 1996-1997 season, for winning the Division 8 Class 4A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to George County High School, Coach Steve Buckley and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
