AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 973, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1993, AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 932, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1994, TO EXTEND THE REPEALER AUTHORIZING THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF OKOLONA TO IMPOSE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS IN MISDEMEANOR CASES, THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.  

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Chapter 973, Local and Private Laws of 1993, as amended by Chapter 932, Local and Private Laws of 1994, is amended as follows:

Section 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Okolona are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on the minutes of the governing authorities, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed Fifty Cents (504) per case for each misdemeanor filed in the municipal court of such municipality.

(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the municipality to Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information which will lead to the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes and in support of good law enforcement.

(3) This act shall stand repealed from and after July 1, 1999.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
