House Bill 1707

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR CERTAIN PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS FROM THE SALARIES OF EMPLOYEES OF THE STATE AND STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) Upon written authorization of any employee, the governing authorities of any state agency or entity or of a state institution of higher learning shall deduct from the salary of that employee any combination of the following:

(a) Dues to professional organizations or associations;

(b) Contributions to charitable organizations;

(c) Loan payments to credit unions;

(d) Payments to savings deposits;

(e) Payments for savings bonds; or

(f) Dues to voluntary associations of public employees or university and college employees.

(2) The deductions in subsection (1) of this section shall be made each pay period in an amount as authorized by the employee. The governing authorities shall pay over to the designated recipient any funds collected through payroll deductions on a monthly basis. The authorization for payroll deductions as provided herein shall be continuing unless terminated in writing by the employee.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
