AN ACT TO CREATE A NEW SECTION TO BE CODIFIED AS SECTION 25-3-73, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE SALARIES OF ALL STATE EMPLOYEES TO BE PAID SEMIMONTHLY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following shall be codified as Section 25-3-73, Mississippi Code of 1972:

25-3-73. The salaries of all employees and officers of the State of Mississippi shall be paid semimonthly in equal installments, subject to deductions being withheld on a monthly basis. The salary payments shall be made on the first and fifteenth days of each calendar month. However, if a pay date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, salary payments shall be made on the working day immediately preceding the weekend or legal holiday.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
