AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE SWINE DEMONSTRATION UNIT AT THE PONTOTOC BRANCH EXPERIMENT STATION SHALL BE RENAMED THE WILEY L. BEAN SWINE DEMONSTRATION UNIT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

WHEREAS, Wiley Loden Bean was born on September 22, 1921, in Itawamba County, Mississippi, the son of the late Wiley Holder and Jennie Mae Loden Bean; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bean was educated in the public schools of Itawamba County and lived his entire life on the farm owned by his family since it was purchased from the Indians in 1838; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bean spent his life farming the family farm which included row crops, livestock and swine production; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bean devoted his life in service to his family, his church and the enlightenment and enhancement of agriculture in Itawamba County, the State of Mississippi and the entire Nation. His service included, among others, Commissioner of the Itawamba County Soil and Water Conservation District, a Director of Farm Bureau, past Director of Itawamba County Farmers Home Administration, a past State President of the Mississippi Pork Producers Council and a national board member of the National Pork Producers Association, the East Heights Baptist Church and was an Air Force Veteran of World War II and the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, Wiley L. Bean was devoted to his wife, June Page Bean, his son, Lance Bean, his daughters, Cheryl Wood and Marlene Curley and his grandchildren, brothers and sisters; and

WHEREAS, Wiley L. Bean's life serves as a reminder that each of us should be committed to giving back through service to our fellowman some of the benefits we have enjoyed; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Swine Demonstration Unit at the Pontotoc Branch Experiment Station shall be renamed the Wiley L. Bean Swine Demonstration Unit to honor the life and work of the late Wiley L. Bean. A proper sign shall be erected to denote the renaming of this unit.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
