AN ACT TO GUARANTEE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND ASSISTANT TEACHERS THE RIGHT TO EAT LUNCH; TO PROVIDE THAT EACH TEACHER AND ASSISTANT TEACHER SHALL HAVE NO LESS THAN 30 MINUTES OF PERSONAL TIME FOR LUNCH, DURING WHICH TIME THE TEACHER OR ASSISTANT TEACHER MAY ATTEND TO PERSONAL NEEDS EITHER ON OR OFF CAMPUS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Teachers and assistant teachers in the public schools of Mississippi are guaranteed the right to eat lunch. This right shall be incorporated into the schedule of the ordinary school day. Each teacher and assistant teacher shall have no less than thirty (30) continuous minutes of personal time to eat lunch. No duties or other responsibilities shall be assigned to a teacher or assistant teacher during his personal time for lunch. Teachers and assistant teachers may use the personal time for attending to personal needs either on or off campus.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
