AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT AN INDICTED JUDGE SHALL TAKE A LEAVE OF ABSENCE UNTIL THE FINAL DISPOSITION OF ALL CHARGES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Any judge or justice who shall be indicted for any criminal offense shall take a leave of absence with pay from his position until the final disposition of all charges against such judge or justice. If such judge or justice is exonerated, he shall resume his duties as judge or justice. If such judge or justice is found guilty, the appropriate disciplinary and removal actions shall be taken as provided by law. The provisions of this section shall be supplemental to any other provisions of law regarding disciplinary actions against judges or justices.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
