AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ALCORN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE FILED IN THE JUSTICE COURT OF THE COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF CORINTH TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE FILED IN THE MUNICIPAL COURT; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI CRIME STOPPERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Alcorn County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case, for each misdemeanor case filed in the justice court of the county.

(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the county to Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Alcorn County, Mississippi, and in support of good law enforcement.

SECTION 2. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Corinth, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, may levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case, for each misdemeanor case filed in the municipal court of the City of Corinth.

(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the municipality to Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in the City of Corinth, and in support of good law enforcement.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
