AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-67, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING AUTHORITIES, UPON REQUEST, TO DEDUCT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MISSISSIPPI FIRE FIGHTERS MEMORIAL BURN CENTER AND ASSOCIATION DUES FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE PAYCHECKS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-67, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-67. The governing authorities of any municipality, within their discretion, may deduct from the salary of any individual municipal employee an amount to be deposited with the municipal credit union, contributions for the United Way, life, health and accident insurance and United States Savings Bonds, if a request for such deductions is made in writing by the employee.

In addition, in any municipality maintaining a paid fire department, the governing authorities, within their discretion, may deduct from the salary of any individual employee of the fire department contributions for the Mississippi Fire Fighters Memorial Burn Center and professional association dues, if a request for the deductions is made in writing by the employee.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
