AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-23-97, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO CLARIFY THE PROHIBITION AGAINST SCALPING TICKETS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 97-23-97, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

97-23-97. It shall be unlawful for any admission ticket to any athletic contest of any college or university of the State of Mississippi or for any admission ticket to any entertainment event or any other event held in the state * * * to be sold for a price in excess of the price printed on the face of the ticket.

It shall be unlawful to sell any such admission tickets at any place or in any manner except at such places and in such manner as designated by the proper authorities issuing such tickets.

Nothing in this section shall prohibit a private individual from selling tickets bought for personal use at a price not to exceed the price on the face of the ticket.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) or imprisoned for not more than one (1) year, or both.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
