AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 73-3-125, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE A CREDIT FOR MEMBERS OF CERTAIN BAR ASSOCIATIONS FOR THE PAYMENT OF ENROLLMENT FEES TO THE MISSISSIPPI BAR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 73-3-125, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

73-3-125. All lawyers over the age of sixty-five (65) years, and the judges of the Supreme Court, and appellate, circuit, chancery and county judges, United States magistrates, judges of the bankruptcy courts, and the judges of the federal courts are exempt from the payment of enrollment fees. Any member of the bar who provides documentation of the payment of any local, county or state bar association approved as a Mississippi sponsor of continuing legal education as of January 1, 1997, shall be given credit, in the amount of one-half (2) of the dues paid to the county, local or state bar association, toward meeting the obligation for payment of enrollment fees. Persons of the classes enumerated in this section shall be active members except that no judge shall be eligible to membership on the Board of Commissioners.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
