Title: AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 43-21-157, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROHIBIT THE CIRCUIT COURT FROM AUTOMATICALLY IMPOSING A MANDATORY SENTENCE FOR ANY CHILD UNDER 17 YEARS OF AGE WHO IS UNDER THE COURT'S JURISDICTION, AND TO PROHIBIT SUCH COURT FROM SENTENCING ANY CHILD TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE; TO AMEND SECTION 47-7-3, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, IN CONFORMITY THERETO; TO AMEND SECTION 43-21-303, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO CLARIFY THAT DURING THE INTERROGATION OF ANY CHILD WHO IS UNDER 17 YEARS OF AGE, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS MUST MAKE CONTINUING REASONABLE EFFORTS TO CONTACT THE CHILD'S PARENTS DURING SUCH QUESTIONING; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
